Voting 2006

I went to vote on Tuesday.  I thought that since it was only a mid-term election there would not be a very large line.  I got there at 7:30AM and there were about 20 people in line.  The process seemed to be slow and confusing.  It could be the blue haired poll workers or that this is the second time working with these electronic machines.

Here is the process.

  • Present your Drivers license to poll worker #1.
  • She enters your name on a sheet with sequential numbers on it and lets poll worker #2 know your name and number.
  • Then they put a plastic card in a machine presumably to program it.
  • Then you take you card and goto poll worker #2 and sign the book next to your name.
  • Then you goto an open machine and enter your plastic card and proceed to vote.

One guy got his card stuck.  So the poll worker had to run back and forth between the phone and the machine to try to figure it out.  Ended up that the machine was placed out of service until someone could come and fix it.
